John Burns MD

Dr. John L. Burns, Jr., is Board Certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and is President of the Dallas Plastic Surgery Institute (DPSI), one of the largest and most prestigious plastic surgery group practices in the United States.  Dr. Burns is also the Medical Director for DPSI’s affiliated EpiCentre Skin Care and Laser Center, North Texas’ premier medical spa.

Dr. Burns dedicates his practice to aesthetic plastic surgery.  He is a graduate of Highland Park High School and Vanderbilt University.  He graduated summa cum laude from the research Honors Program at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) and as one of the top students was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society.  Dr. Burns then completed his plastic surgery training in the integrated program at UTMB where he also pursued additional expertise in aesthetic surgery in Miami, FL and microvascular surgery at The MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX.  After residency, Dr. Burns became the first plastic surgeon in the United States to complete a fellowship in laser surgery at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center.   Dr. Burns maintains an active interest in academic plastic surgery through teaching and research endeavors with DPSI’s cosmetic surgery fellowship program where plastic surgeons come from around the nation for additional training in aesthetic surgery.

Dr. Burns is nationally known for his expertise in laser surgery, cosmetic breast and body surgery, fat transfer, and facial rejuvenation, including the use of neuromodulators and soft-tissue fillers.  As President of DPSI, Dr. Burns is interested in the advancement in cooperation between the pharmaceutical industry and private practice with the goal of improving the safety and efficacy of relevant devices, drugs, and procedures.

Dr. Burns operates at the Dallas Day Surgery Center, DPSI’s on-site AAAASF approved plastic surgery specific surgical center.  All staff are specially trained in plastic surgery and are ACLS certified.  Patients can also stay overnight at the on-site Cloister recovery center with round the clock nursing care.  The EpiCentre Skin Care and Laser Center rounds out DPSI’s full service boutique.

Dr. Burns is married to Ann Burns, a graduate of Wake Forest University and The University of Texas Law School.  Ann is a trademark attorney.  They have three wonderful children – Jack (16), David (14), and Lucy (11).  Dr. Burns is a member of the Park Cities Presbyterian Church.  He is also an elite masters marathon runner and competes annually in The New York City Marathon and The Boston Marathon, with a personal best time of 2:45.
